Jones scores 44 in Indians’ win

The Byhalia Indians won two games in the Coldwater Tournament last week, thanks in large part to Kenyatta Jones’ 71 points.
Coach Donald Bryant’s Indians slipped past the Cougars 82-79 on Monday, Dec. 27. Jones scorched the nets for more than half of Byhalia’s points. He finished with 44.
The big difference came in the third quarter when Byhalia outscored Coldwater 29-21.
The Indians also sank 19 of 31 free throws.
Backing K. Jones’ stellar night were Courtney Warren with 12 points and Jamerson Euell with 11.
The Indians then knocked off Independence 75-65 on day two of the tournament, December 28.
They fell behind 37-29 at the half but outscored the Wildcats 46-28 in the second half.
K. Jones poured in 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jamal Jones added 19 points and four assists. Warren scored 17 points and had eight rebounds. Euell was the top rebounder with 17.
The Indians improved to 7-8 on the season.
Also, last week the Lady Indians won three of four games in the Collierville, Tenn., Tournament to go to 11-5 on the season.
They defeated Kirby (Memphis) 67-40, St. Agnes Academy (Memphis) 57-25 and Fairley (Memphis) 70-56, before losing 66-54 to Marion County (Jasper, Tenn.).
