The Marshall Academy Patriots spent four nights away from home last week and proved it was well worth the stay. They
capped the trip to Madden (near Philadelphia and Carthage) with a North
AA championship. Their victims were Lamar School, Hillcrest Christian

Hawks finish second, advance By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor High
school basketball teams started regional play last week throughout the
state. The Region 3-3A playoffs were held at Holly Springs High School
gymnasium. The tournament at Holly High was
scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 9, but was delayed one day because
of inclement weather. Four teams received first round “byes” – Palmer
and Independence (girls) and Holly High and Cleveland East Side (boys). Full Story
Lady Lions win district By BARRY BURLESON Editor The H.W. Byers Lady Lions claimed a district championship trophy for the third straight year Friday night. Coach
Jason Thompson’s squad turned back Myrtle for the Region 2-1A crown.
The previous two district titles came in Class 2A, which was followed

MA baseball coaches conducting hitting clinic The Marshall Academy baseball coaches will be offering a hitting clinic the next two Sundays for ages 8-14. The
hitting clinic will be February 21 and February 28 from 2-4 p.m. Cost
of each session is $25 or you can attend both for $45. Each player
will have batting practice sessions on the field and in the cage at

Free throw contest set for Feb. 27 at Holy Family The
local council of the Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Free
Throw Tournament at Holy Family Gym on West Street on Feb. 27,
beginning at 11 a.m. The tournament is open to all children, girls and boys, between the ages of 10 and 14. Holly Springs registers for youth baseball and softball The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is now registering for Dizzy Dean baseball and softball. The countywide league is for ages 3 to 16 (girls and boys). Register

Byhalia girls, boys fall in round one By BARRY BURLESON Editor Byhalia
High School basketball teams ended their season Wednesday of last week
