Lady Indians take two
The Byhalia Lady Indians ended regular season district play last week by turning back both Lewisburg and Senatobia.
The Indians lost to the same two opponents – including a double overtime contest versus the Warriors.
Erica Bougard and Quanisha Neely scored 18 and 11 points, respectively, as the Byhalia girls dominated Lewisburg 57-38 Thursday.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Indians squeaked by Senatobia 64-61.
Bougard lit up the scoreboard with 21 points. Briana Windham and Crystal Rayford added 13 each.
“The girls had a good week – taking care of business and winning three games they were supposed to win,” coach Markeith Washington said. “Now we just can’t get complacent come tournament time.”
The Byhalia boys dropped a 68-58 decision to Lewisburg.
Coach Washington said the team played without three starters.
Alfonzo Wilson blistered the nets with 24 points in the loss. Courtney Warren had 12.
On Tuesday of last week, the Indians lost a double overtime thriller, 88-80, to Senatobia.
Four Byhalia players scored in double digits – Kenyatta Jones with 20, Thomas Lesueur with 18 and Warren and Wilson with 16 each.
He said the team “played more together.”
The Indians and Lady Indians entered the Region 2-4A Tournament this week at Lewisburg.
