Things were not looking good for the host team in the opening game of the Mississippi Magic Citi Showdown.
The H.W. Byers Lady Lions fell behind Clyde Miller Career Academy by 11 points Tuesday night, Dec. 21, with about five minutes to go in the third quarter.
Hawks shift districts
The two largest schools in Marshall County will both be in Class 3A after reclassification but not in the same district.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association recently posted classifications and district alignments on its website.
Hawks fall at buzzer
The Hawks ran into a fired-up bunch of Rebels December 21 in the Myrtle Christmas Classic.
A lackadaisical Holly Springs team dropped a 45-43 decision to a determined Hickory Flat squad.
Girls end losing skid
The Holly Springs High School Lady Hawks received a nice Christmas gift December 21.
The girls had opened the season with 15 straight losses. But that streak came to a welcome end with the 40-36 win over Ingomar in the Myrtle Christmas Classic.
Sunday was week 16 in the NFL and it has long been do-or-die week.
Clubs look to the week’s end to be the final indicator of who goes on and who goes home to watch in woeful silence. That’s from the players’ standpoint. For coaches it takes a little different slant. It just might mean the appearance of a moving van in the very near future.
MA teams 8-1, 7-5
The Marshall Academy junior high basketball teams are about a month away from their big event – the District 1-AA Tournament.
It will be held January 26, 27 and 29 at Indianola Academy.
H.W. Byers girls lose to Lady Spartans
The Lions Den was the host venue for what was billed as the Mississippi Magic Citi Showdown during the first week of the holiday break. The 16 teams which took part had come from as far away as Illinois and Ohio.
Lady Lions down Millington by 23
The H.W. Byers Lady Lions shared some Christmas cheer Thursday night.
The happiness came after they knocked off Millington, Tenn., 57-34 in the final game of the Mississippi Magic Citi Showdown at H.W. Byers High School.
