This was the rubber match of the season between the inter-county rivals.
The first was played in Ashland and won by the Lady Devils, a game which new head coach Xavier Johnson said his Holly Springs Lady Hawks should have won. The contest was decided in overtime.
MA sweeps rival Kirk
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots never trailed Friday night at Kirk and stunned the higher-ranked Lady Raiders.
Kelsey Shaw and Callie Clanton combined for six threes as MA beat the district foe 35-27.
Vanderburg signs with Delta State
Josh Vanderburg knew in elementary school he wanted to play college baseball.
Lots of teams go ‘bowling’
Someone pointed out to yours truly over the weekend that the bowl season has already started and that other than the one which is going to garner the most attention, there has been sparse notice given about the rest. Of course, the person making that statement probably is not a great viewer of the sports channels. The next salient question was, “How many SEC teams made the cut and where are they playing?”
Potts Camp girls stand 7-7 at break
Coach Tana Miller is pleased with her young team’s progress going into the Christmas break.
The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals, with a roster full of freshmen and sophomores, beat Blue Mountain and Alcorn Central last week to even their season mark at 7-7.
Byers girls hosting holiday showdown
The gym at H.W. Byers is featuring some of the top girls basketball teams from several states this week.
Coach Jason Thompson and his Lady Lions are hosting the Mississippi Magic City Showdown.
Byers takes two from Ashland
The Ashland Lady Devils and Devils had to make two trips across the county lines last week to take on two perennial foes. In the first part of the week they had to take on the teams of H.W. Byers.
The hard-hitting Lady Lions didn’t wait to start applying the pressure. They literally ran out to an 18-point lead at the end of the first period at 24-6.
Marshall going to Brookhaven next week
Marshall Academy will join some more of the state’s best private school basketball programs next week in the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Tournament.
