recently presented a $1,500 check to the Marshall County School
District for the purchase of Accelerated Reader (AR) books. Jerry
Moore, deputy superintendent of education, accepted the check from club
president Beth Stinnett. Moore said the district will buy an AR
classroom set of books for four teachers at each of the four elementary
schools. Teachers will be selected based on which have the fewest AR
books available for their children to read. “So, we’re going to
basically even things out for the students in that classroom, so to
speak, so that they'll have an equal opportunity to read what the other
students are reading,” Moore said. “Also, we’ll match the books to the
other classrooms so that we’ll have the same titles in each room.” He
thanked the Rotary Club for fulfilling an immediate need in the
district’s elementary schools. “Our students have developed a true love
for reading because of the Accelerated Reader program, and this
donation will sustain our students’ appreciation for reading by
ensuring that our AR libraries are stocked with plenty of new titles
for them to read,” Moore said. “I just can’t tell you how much I
appreciate the Rotary Club for their help.” Byhalia police respond to array of calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 37 calls during the past week.
