The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals’ district opener was exciting to say the least. Hayley
Davis connected on a three at the buzzer Tuesday night, Dec. 7, as
coach Tana Miller’s squad beat West Union 51-48 at home. “Hayley pulled it out for us,” coach Tana Miller said. “It was a big night for her.” The Potts Camp boys followed with an easy 62-25 win over the Eagles. In
the girls game, the Lady Cardinals looked to be in control. They
stretched a 12-7 lead in the first quarter to a 30-19 margin at the
half. They were up 41-28 after three. But the
Lady Eagles rallied in the fourth, thanks in large part to Potts Camp’s
missed lay-ups and turnovers, according to Coach Miller. West Union
tied the game on two free throws with nine seconds left. Tenesha Woods
took the throw-in and spotted Davis at the three-point line. Davis
caught the pass and knocked down the shot. A celebration followed. Woods powered the Potts Camp attack. She scored 18. Haley Davis and Zana Davis added 11 and 10, respectively. The Potts Camp boys coasted in the nightcap. Coach
Shawn Holtz saw the Cardinals go up by seven at the close of the first
and then outscore West Union 21-8 in the second quarter to lead 34-14
at halftime. They went on to win by 37 points. | Photos by Ronnie Day

13. LaVonte Richmond and Randy Love added eight each. “It
was a great team win,” Coach Holtz said after the game. “We have won
three of four, so hopefully we can keep this momentum going. I am
proud of our effort both offensive and defensively. I think we are
improving each night, but we still have a long way to go.” P.C.-Ingomar The
Lady Cardinals and Cardinals hit the road for district competition
Friday night and split a couple of nail-biters at Ingomar. The
Potts Camp girls were down 20-19 at the half and 33-31 after three
periods but rallied in the fourth for a 47-44 win. It pushed them to
2-0 in the district and 5-7 overall. “We were sort of motionless in the first half,” Coach Miller said. “But we picked up our intensity in the second half. “The biggest thing – our turnovers were down and that won the game for us.” Zana Davis lit up the scoreboard with 21 points. The Potts Camp boys dropped a 64-62 decision in overtime to the Falcons. “It was a hard-fought game,” Coach Holtz said. The was knotted at 32 at the half and at 55 at the end of regulation. Ingomar outscored the Cardinals 9-7 in the extra frame. Top point producers for Potts Camp were LaVonte Richmond with 21 and Love with 18. | | Tierica Tunstall (11) of Potts Camp eyes the goal in last week’s game at home against West Union. |
