ObituariesR.L. Burnside Jr. R.L. Burnside Jr., 56, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 4, 2010, at his home. He was a farmer. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 at Wyatte Community Church. Burial was in Free Springs CME Cemetery in Harmontown. Rodgers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his wife, Ira Jean Burnside; a daughter, April Burnside of Senatobia; a son, R.L. Burnside III of Senatobia; three sisters, Linda Burnside of Byhalia, Pamela Burnside, Brenda Burnside, both of Holly Springs; seven brothers, Melvin Burnside, Garry Burnside, Joseph Burnside, all of Byhalia, Dexter Burnside of Holly Springs, Wayne Burnside of Potts Camp, Calvin Burnside, Daniel Burnside, both of Davenport, Iowa; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, famed bluesman R.L. Burnside, and his mother, Annie Mae Burnside.
LeRoy “Buddy” DeBerry, 72, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 4, 2010, at his home. He was a member of Providence MB Church, a church usher and a retired brick shaver with Holly Springs Brick and Tile. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Mt. Sinai MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Alonzo Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves seven children, Cassandra DeBerry of Byhalia, Sharon DeBerry of Hattiesburg, Robert DeBerry of Memphis, Tenn., Terry DeBerry of Slidell, La., Truman DeBerry, Willie Hunt, Price Burgess, all of Holly Springs; two sisters, Mamie Phillips, Louise Neely, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Robert DeBerry of Chicago, Ill.; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by children Tracy DeBerry and Leroy DeBerry Jr. Pallbearers were Robert DeBerry, Truman DeBerry, Terry DeBerry, Willie Hunt, Price Burgess and Tony Hill. Honorary pallbearers were his nephews.
Laterrica Monique Johnson, 23, of Byhalia, died Dec. 5, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Collierville. She was employed at McDonald’s in Collierville, Tenn. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 11 at Royal Chapel CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Wilson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves two children, Avery Johnson, Alona Miller; her parents, Tony Cole and Donna Johnson; brothers, Ferrell Smith, Contrell Smith, Brandon Luellen, all of Byhalia, Terry Palmer II, Laterryl Palmer of Florida; and a sister, Aniyah Cole of Moscow, Tenn. Pallbearers were Martavious Cole, Robert Rubbin, Roosevelt Rubbin, Michael Hughes, Maleke Rubbin, and Vonte Wilkins.
Doran Dorain LeSueur, 45, of Plains, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 6, 2010 in Plains. He was a member of Christian Center International in Atlanta, Ga., and custodian of Grey Hound Bus Station in Albany, Ga. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Christ Temple Church of God In Christ in Holly Springs. Burial was in LeSueur Cemetery. Rev. Michael Adams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his mother, Annie Seal Martin LeSueur of Byhalia; four sisters, Wilma Parker of Hineville, Ga., Maresa Alexander of Bolton, Melissa Hunt of Holly Springs, Michelle LeSueur of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three brothers, Frank LeSueur of Hinesville, Ga., Artis LeSueur of Jackson, Derrick LeSueur of Whiteville, Tenn.
Tony A. Motton, 53, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 3, 2010, at Alliance Health Care. He worked seven years for Pipers in New Albany. Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 11 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bowens Cemetery. Rev. Dwight Rucker officiated. He leaves his daughter, Shanell Lee Ann Sharp of Potts Camp; his mother, Sarah Bean; a brother, Michael Bean of Holly Springs; and a sister, Barbara Smith of St. Louis, Mo. Pallbearers were Michael Bean, Walter Griffin, James Harris, Eddie James, Larry Mitchell Jr. and Robert Rucker. Honorary pallbearers were family and friends.
Lillie Mae Mayse Parker, 88, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Victoria, died Dec. 7, 2010, at her home. She was the widow of John W. Parker. She was a church usher and a member of the church choir. Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 12 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.F. She leaves three daughters, Lydia Guy of Germantown, Tenn., Bleachy Washington of Memphis, Tenn., Vickie Williams of Cordova, Tenn.; four sons, Harry Moore, Stratten Moore, both of Memphis, Tenn., Frager Moore of Cleveland, Milton Parker of Olive Branch; three sisters, Sarah Reed, Maxine Hearn, both of Victoria, Almazine Jones of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Boyce Mayse of Chicago, Ill., Percy Mayse of Victoria; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Simon Moore Jr. Charlie Skelton Charlie Skelton, 71, of Ashland, died Dec. 10, 2010, at his home. He was a Baptist and a farmer. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bluff Springs Cemetery. Rev. James Miller officiated. He leaves his wife, Rosia Lee Skelton; a son, Steve Skelton of Ashland; a daughter, Cindy Wilson of Ashland; three sisters, Frances Overall of Falkner, Robbie Maroney, Charlene Robinson, both of Ashland; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
