Green receives statewide honor By BARRY BURLESON Karen Green was recently voted the state’s Athletic Director of the Year. The prestigious award was presented at the Mississippi Athletic Administrators Association (MAAA) Conference in Vicksburg. More than 400 association members, including athletic directors, principals and superintendents, were in attendance and voted Green the Athletic Director of the Year. Ten were nominated.
• MA sweeps Cougars; district next at Indianola By BARRY BURLESON Marshall Academy teams made it an enjoyable night for three seniors January 26. The Lady Patriots and Patriots routed Lee (Ark.) as Emily Burk, Caleb Byrd and Jake Omedeo played their last games on the MA basketball court. The MA girls were in full control, 28-6, at the half and never looked back as they dropped the Lady Cougars 56-20. Lady Indians rally for victory By CLAUDE VINSON It was Indians versus Warriors Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Byhalia’s gym. District foe Senatobia came to challenge the Indians and Lady Indians. Holly Springs hosting junior high tournament The North Mississippi Junior High Conference Tournament will be hosted by Holly Springs Jr. High School. Games will be played at the Intermediate School gym, 210 West Valley Ave., Holly Springs, February 4-6. Behind The Scoreboard Memphis struggling Collegiate football wrapped another chapter on Saturday with its annual North vs. South game and the NFL had its “feel good” game, better known as the Pro-Bowl, on Sunday. Byhalia sets sign-up for baseball, softball Byhalia Sports Association will hold registration for spring and summer T-ball, baseball and softball on Friday, Feb. 5, from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. in the Byhalia Elementary and Middle School Gym and Saturday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Byhalia Town Hall. Lady Lions rout Ingomar By BARRY BURLESON The H.W. Byers Lady Lions remained solidly atop the district race with an easy win at Ingomar on Tuesday of last week. Lady Cardinals win 76-51 By BARRY BURLESON The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals picked up their 20th win of the season last week. Kirkwood plans Super Bowl golf tourney Kirkwood National will be hosting a two-person Super Bowl Scramble on Sunday, Feb. 7, with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament is open to all. The $25 per player entry fee includes a barbecue dinner after the tournament. Pro Shop gift certificates will be awarded to the winners. Invite a guest to join you for dinner after the tournament for just $10 and stay and watch the game at Kirkwood. Please call the Pro Shop at 662-252-4888 to register your team and let Kirkwood know if you will be bringing a guest for dinner. Clash of top five teams By BARRY BURLESON Coach Naylond Hayes said he witnessed something new last week from one of his Holly Springs basketball teams. MHSAA announces North State Tournament locations Some Marshall County teams could host North State if the post-season goes in their favor until that point. The Mississippi High School Activities Association has announced the sites for the 2009-10 North State basketball tournaments (February 18-20) for classes 1A-6A. |
