Close to Nowhere
• I may have mentioned before how much I love “gadgets.”
I’ve been desperate for the Amazon Kindle — and I did get the Kindle app for my iPhone — works great!
A friend at church, Max (in his 70s) got a real Kindle for Christmas. I’m envious!
Or, I was until the new Apple iPad was introduced. Now, I want an iPad. Badly! I’m not real sure why or what I’d do with it, but I bet I could find something!
I’m thinking I could use the new app I have for my iPhone nicely on the iPad. Seems like there are a bunch of quilting apps available.
I now have a free quilting app that tells me how to size triangles; how to convert inches to yards (or vice versa); how big different size bedcoverings are and even how to count stitches per inch with suggestions on making even stitches.
I could see all that a lot better on an iPad than I can on my iPhone!
The iPad will be available in March, I think, and the basic one will be around $499 (why don’t they just say “$500” and be done with it?). I’m sure I’d need some bells and whistles on it, which would more than likely add a few bucks to the price.
I guess I could give up my trip to Paducah in April and get an iPad, but there’s not a gadget in the world worth that. Besides, I have this new app on my iPhone that will help me determine what size the stitches are in the quilts I’m drooling over.
• Jane and I have decided that maybe we won’t buy much fabric at Paducah this year. I’m guessing by April, we will have forgotten that decision though.
We made it standing at the fabric cutting table at the Walmart in Oxford Sunday.
That Walmart is closing down their fabric department. Seems like it’s not “cost effective” to have an employee there all the time. Never mind that it was always busy and that employee (usually a very nice lady named Margot) was usually swamped.
I’m guessing customers aren’t very important to Walmart — gotta watch that bottom line after all.
Makes me wish Sam Walton was still alive. I’d complain to him! I doubt he’d cut the fabric departments out!
Jane and I might have bought a piece or two of fabric at half price. So, we decided that we wouldn’t buy much fabric at Paducah.
