Lady Lions rout Ingomar • Byers teams invade Potts Camp Thursday

The H.W. Byers Lady
Lions remained solidly atop
the district race with an easy
win at Ingomar on Tuesday of
last week. The Byers girls improved
to 20-6 overall and 8-0 in
Region 2-1A with the 59-30
victory. Kourtney Coleman, Alexis
Hardaway and Brionne
Gulledge were the scoring
stars for coach Jason
Thompson. Coleman led the
way with 20 points, while
Hardaway had 14 and
Gulledge 11. An aggressive Byers
defense held the Lady
Falcons to single-digit scoring
in each quarter. The Lady Lions led 13-3
after one period, 30-12 at the
half and 48-21 following three
quarters. The H.W. Byers boys
found themselves on the
other end of the scoreboard.
They fell 91-69 to the high-flying
Falcons. The Lions dropped to 6-17
overall and 4-4 in the district.
Ingomar improved to 21-3
overall. The Falcons are
ranked number two in Class
1A, behind another Region 2
squad – Myrtle. Ingomar led Byers 20-12
after one quarter and 42-27 at
the half. The hard-fighting
Lions outscored the Falcons
20-19 in the third but Ingomar
pulled away in the fourth. Jeremy Williams was the
shooting star in the game.
The Byers player lit up the
scoreboard with a game-high
35 points. Five Falcons scored in
double figures, led by Zach
Carnell’s 23. H.W. Byers teams hosted
West Union Tuesday. They
go to Potts Camp Thursday to
wrap up regular season district
play. Friday, the Lady
Lions and Lions host Tunica
Rosa Fort. The Region 2-1A
Tournament will be held next
week at West Union.
