Green receives statewide honor By BARRY BURLESON Editor | | Karen Green |
Karen Green was recently voted the state’s Athletic Director of the Year. The prestigious award was presented at the Mississippi Athletic Administrators Association (MAAA) Conference in Vicksburg. More
than 400 association members, including athletic directors, principals
and superintendents, were in attendance and voted Green the Athletic
Director of the Year. Ten were nominated. “I’ve
gotten honors before,” said Green, athletic director at Potts Camp
School, “but this one is very special to me because it was voted on by
my peers.” Green has been working at Potts Camp
School the past 17 years. She has led a very successful athletic
department for the past 13 years. Programs established during her
tenure include slow-pitch softball, fast-pitch softball, cross country,
track and field, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the athletic banquet
and the athletic booster club. She was honored a
year ago with a State Award of Merit by the National Interscholastic
Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). She was just the fifth
person from Mississippi to ever receive that award. As
a coach, Green’s Potts Camp teams have won seven state championships in
track and field and three in cross country. She was named Teacher of
the Year in 1997-98 at Potts Camp. She was selected state Coach of the
Year for cross country in May 1998 and state Coach of the Year for
track and field in May 2001. She was also named South Sectional Coach
of the Year by the NIAAA (track and field) in February 2002. |
