Clash of top five teams • Holly High boys fall at Cleveland East Side By BARRY BURLESON Editor Coach Naylond Hayes said he witnessed something new last week from one of his Holly Springs basketball teams. “We were intimidated,” he said. “They got a couple of dunks on us, and we looked scared.” East Side, ranked third in Class 3A, dominated the fourth-ranked Hawks 60-37 in the district clash. “I
told them after the game they could hang their heads or they could go
to work and prepare to hopefully get another shot at them in the
district tournament,” Coach Hayes said. It was Holly High’s second loss to the Trojans – the first one 61-50 at home January 15. The
Hawks (21-3 on the season) fell behind 15-5 after one quarter in the
game last week versus East Side. They played the Trojans pretty much
even in the second and third periods, and then in the fourth East Side
outscored Holly High 17-7. Roderick Glover was the Hawks’ top scorer with 15 points. Kendrick Pool added eight. The Lady Hawks had a tough time at Cleveland also. They dropped a 41-25 decision to the Lady Trojans on Tuesday of last week. The Holly High girls were down 17-12 at the half. RoShunda Neely scored 11 points for the Lady Hawks. Holly
High teams were slated to host Class 6A Olive Branch Tuesday. They host
4A school and county rival Byhalia this Friday night. Holly Springs High School will then host the Region 3-3A Tournament next week, February 8-12.
