Obituaries

Viola Harviel

Viola S. Harviel, 86, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 30, 2010, in Holly Springs. She was a Methodist and former owner of Jennie’s Flowers.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Holly Springs United Methodist Church. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Milton Whatley officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her son, Trent Harviel of Germantown, Tenn.; a brother, James Shelton of Somerville, Tenn.; a sister, Martha Lou Hudspeth of Jackson; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Harviel.

Honorary pallbearers were the Birthday Girls.

Loretta L. Jackson

Loretta L. Jackson, 75, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Holly Springs, died Nov. 29, 2010, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, Mo. She was the widow of E.L. Jackson Jr.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Hopewell No. 1 MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Bowens Cemetery. Rev. Leroy James officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Sharon Jackson, Erana Jackson, both of St. Louis; two sons, Robert Jackson of Orlando, Fla., Edward Jackson of Holly Springs; three grandsons and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Lester Stanback.

George Carrol Loveland

George Carrol Loveland, 86, of Byhalia, died Dec. 1, 2010, at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. He was a member of Evangel Full Gospel and a preacher.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Evangel Full Gospel Church Cemetery in Holly Springs. Bro. Montie Scherff, Bro. Bobby Langford, Bro. Jimmy Mangram, Bro. Richard Boone, Bro. Jay Glosson and Bro. Charles Skaggs officiated.

He leaves his wife, Dorothea Loveland; three sons, Gene Dale Tracy of Byhalia, James Lee Tracy of Avery, Tx., Leland Carroll Loveland of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Eunice Waldrop of Byhalia; a sister, Mary Lee Wilson of Walls; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, George Lawrence Loveland.

Pallbearers were Wayne Allen, Jody Waldrop, David Waldrop, Joseph Loveland, Phillip Loveland and Stephen Loveland.

Patty Sue McMullen

Patty Sue McMullen, 75, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 25, 2010, in Horn Lake. She was the widow of Arnold “Cowboy” McMullen and a Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 27 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery. Bro. Randy Mobley officiated.

She leaves three sons, Mark McMullen of Heber Springs, Ark., Arnie McMullen, Tommie McMullen, both of Ashland; two daughters, Cheryl McMullen Hargis of Horn Lake, Anne Terry of Ft. Worth, Tx.; a brother, Carnell “Tobe” Byrd of Lamar; a sister, Katie Roberson of Ashland; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joe McMullen.

Pallbearers were Stacy Byrd, Randy Saunders, Dustin Autry, Dale Sexton, Jimmy Lovell, Darron Byrd, Ruben Campbell and Chris McMillen.

Verla Mae Stanton

Verla Mae Stanton, 78, of Hickory Flat, died Nov. 30, 2010, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 2 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Wilson and Bro. Roberts officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Frank Stanton; four sons, Danny Stanton of Potts Camp, Sonny Stanton, Jerry Stanton, Franky Stanton, all of Holly Springs; two daughters, Dian Gray of Potts Camp, Mary Ann Wilson of Macedonia; two sisters, Joyce Clayton, Faye Stanton, both of Potts Camp; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Edward Charles Tennial

Edward Charles Tennial, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., died Nov. 27, 2010, in Aurora, Ill. He was a construction worker.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Smith Grove Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
