Camp parade this Saturday
The
Town of Potts Camp will host its Christmas parade this Saturday, Dec.
11, starting at 12 noon.

Qualifying
ends Friday for transportation post
Three
seats are up for special elections which will be held January 11, 2011,
but Marshall County voters will only vote for candidates running to
replace the late Bill Minor.
The
Mississippi Department of Transportation commissioner for the Northern
District died November 1.
Elsewhere
in Mississippi, candidates will be running for the vacant seats of
Senate District 6 seat vacated by Sen. Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo and the
House of Representatives District 116 seat vacated by Rep. Steven
Palazzo of Biloxi. Both won seats in the U.S. House of Representatives
in the November 2 election and both have resigned from the Legislature
effective Monday, Nov. 29, according to press reports.
The
qualifying deadline for the three special elections is 5 p.m. this
Friday, Dec. 10, at the Secretary of State’s office. Runoff
elections
for the legislative seats, if any, will be held Feb. 1, 2011.
The
winners of the three seats will serve until January 1, 2012 and the
positions will be on the ballot again in 2011 as part of the regular
election cycle.
Some
candidates have already
announced their intentions to seek the transportation
commissioner’s
post. The position represents 17 counties in North Mississippi.
Byhalia
police officers respond to 36 calls
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to 36 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 3;
miscellaneous, 7; escorts, 8; juveniles, 1; assists, 6; motor vehicle
accidents, 5; fires, 1; and medical, 5.
Byhalia
police officers also made 13 arrests during the past week.
