City police go
to array of calls, make arrests
Several
arrests were made last week by officers, according to chief Robert
Pearson and 11 incident reports taken.
Monday,
Nov. 22
•
a petit larceny was reported in the 1300 block of Highway 4. A wallet
was stolen containing approximately $120 in cash, a debit card, a
MasterCard, a Social Security card, and a nursing license. Under
investigation.
•
a dwelling was burglarized in
the 200 block of West Woodward Avenue. A PlayStation 3 and two games
and a Smith & Wesson .38 handgun were stolen. Entry was made
through a rear bedroom window. Arrests were made.
Wednesday,
Nov. 24
•
a commercial burglary of an automobile was reported in the Highway 7
area. A CB radio, amplifier, satellite radio and a GPS navigational
system were taken from the vehicle. Under investigation.
•
a commercial burglary of an automobile was reported. A battery and two
speakers were taken. Under investigation.
•
a simple assault was reported in the Salem Avenue area. Charges were
pressed against the suspect.
Thursday,
Nov. 25
•
a domestic violence-simple assault was reported in the 200 block of
North Walthall Street. Arrest was made.
•
a malicious mischief was reported in the 500 block of Highway 178. A
mail box was damaged. Investigation ongoing.
Friday,
Nov. 26
•
a petit larceny was reported in the 900 block of Mackie Drive. An
iPhone was stolen. Under investigation.
•
a dwelling was burglarized in the 200 block of Chesterman Street. A
Compaq computer was stolen from the residence. Under investigation
•
a dwelling was burglarized in the 200 block of West Valley Street.
Items stolen included a Hewlett Packard computer monitor, a 19-inch
television, a 27-inch television, two DVD players, a converter box and
an 18-inch herringbone necklace. Entry was through a side
door. Under
investigation.
Saturday,
Nov. 27
•
a domestic violence-simple assault was reported in the 600 block of
Colonial Drive. No charges were filed due to conflicting statements,
lack of evidence and insufficient probable cause.
Two
juveniles and an adult were arrested in connection with a burglary.
Shavar Midgyett, 17, of West Woodward Avenue was arrested and charged,
Pearson said.
In
another incident, Alvin Barksdale, 55, of Holly Springs, was arrested
and charged with statutory rape, Pearson said.

proof of insurance, 1; no/expired tag, 3; disregard for traffic device,
1; seatbelt violation, 1; simple assault, 1; domestic violence/simple

charges were filed.

a domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of West College
Avenue. Charges were filed.
•
a trespassing was reported in the 100 block of Rust Avenue. Charges
were filed.
•
a residential burglary was reported in the 400 block of Ridgecrest
Avenue. No forced entry was apparent. Several guns were taken including
a single-shot Winchester 12-gauge with wooden stock, a
pump-action
Mossberg 12-gauge with a wooden stock, a bolt-action Remington 30-06
rifle with synthetic stock and black scope mounted, a semi-automatic
.22 caliber rifle with wooden stock and silver barrel with silver
scope. Detectives are investigating.

a domestic violence was reported in the 800 block of West Street. An
arrest was made.
•
a simple assault was reported in the 100 block of West Woodward Avenue.
Subjects denied calling the police.

Nov. 15
•
charges of contraband in a correctional facility were filed in the 800
block of West Street.
•
a malicious mischief was reported in the 100 block of Clarice Drive
when a vehicle accidentally struck the speaker box. No charges filed.
•
an I.D. theft was reported in the 200 block of Coopwood Drive.
Detectives are investigating.
•
a domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of West Woodward
Avenue. No charges were filed.
•
a stalking was reported in the 200 block of West Woodward Avenue. No
charges were filed.
Tuesday,
Nov. 16
•
a residential burglary was reported in the 100 block of Sharon Heights.
Entry was made by kicking through storage closet in carport and
entering the residence. Some cash was missing from a purse, some
jewelry was missing and a box of Air Jordan’s was missing.
Fingerprints
were taken and turned over to detectives.
•
a domestic violence was reported in the 200 block of Randall Drive.
Charges were filed.
•
a malicious mischief was reported in the 400 block of Salem after
juveniles placed a resident's trash can in the middle of the street and
it was struck by a car. No charges were filed.
Wednesday,
Nov. 17
•
a shoplifting and simple assault was reported in the 100 block of
Spring Street. Subject attempted to take some ground beef and cleaning
products and assaulted employees when they attempted to stop her.
Charges were filed.
•
a petit larceny was reported after a wallet was missing in the 100
block of Rust Avenue. No suspects identified.
•
a harassment was reported in the 100 block of West Woodward. No charges
filed.
•
a simple assault was reported in the 300 block of MLK Drive. No charges
were filed.
•
a simple assault was reported in the area of North Center Street. No
charges filed.
•
a disturbance was reported in the 100 block of Walthall Street. No
charges were filed.
Thursday,
Nov. 18
•
a disturbance was reported in the 200 block of MLK Drive. No charges
filed.
•
an attempted suicide was reported in the 900 block of Mackie Drive.
Subject was taken to Baptist DeSoto Hospital.
•
a threat was reported in the 200 block of East College. No charges
filed.
•
a strong arm robbery in the 600 block of Salem was reported. Taken was
cologne, CDs and a jar of donation money. Charges were filed and turned
over to investigations.
•
a trespasser was reported in the 100 block of Rust Avenue. Charges were
filed and an arrest made.
Friday,
Nov. 19
•
a possession of cocaine was reported in the 100 block of Gholson
Avenue. Charges not filed due to subject in hospital.
Saturday,
Nov. 20
•
a simple assault was reported in the Zeta Building on Cottrell Avenue.
Charges were filed.
•
a trespassing and petit larceny were reported in the 400 block of North
Memphis Street. Charges filed and an arrest was made.
•
a report of receiving counterfeit money was made in the 1500 block of
Mary Vance Loop.
