Lady Cards 2-2; boys beat Troopers By BARRY BURLESON Editor Potts Camp tipped off the new basketball season with a busy, four-game week. P.C. vs. Oxford The 1A Cardinals and Lady Cardinals faced a stiff challenge Monday, Nov. 8, in their openers, traveling to Class 5A Oxford. The Potts Camp boys lost 90-49, while the girls fell 78-36. Jamarques Foster scored 13 for the Cards. They trailed 46-21 at halftime. The Lady Cards got 11 points from Zana Davis in their loss. They were down 46-15 at the halfway point. P.C. vs. Mooreville The Cardinals put their first-year coach, Shawn Holtz, into the win column at Mooreville on November 9. They rallied from a 39-32 halftime deficit to win 68-65. Potts Camp outscored the Troopers 17-11 in the third period. Foster gunned in 20 points. Javaughn Jones and Allen Robinson followed with 12 and 11, respectively. The
Lady Cardinals could not recover from a disastrous first quarter. They
trailed 19-0 after one and outscored Mooreville the rest of the way,
but lost 52-39. Top scorer for Potts Camp was Hayley Davis with 12. P.C. vs. Falkner Coach Tana Miller’s Lady Cards picked up their first win of the season Friday night at Falkner – beating the Lady Eagles 49-40. Allyson Smith poured in 19 points for Potts Camp. The
Lady Cardinals trailed 21-19 at the half and 31-29 following three
periods but outscored Falkner 20-9 in the fourth period to win by nine. The Potts Camp boys dropped a back-and-forth 58-55 decision to Falkner. The game was tied after one period at 14. The Eagles led by two at the half and by four after three periods. Top scorers for the Cardinals were Randy Love with 18 and Robinson with 10. P.C. vs. Ashland The Lady Cardinals got 26 points from Tenesha Woods in a 62-56 victory over Ashland Saturday night. It was the home opener for Potts Camp and the girls evened their early season record at 2-2. Others in double digits for Coach Miller’s team were Tierica Tunstall with 11 and Davis with 10. The
game was knotted at 43 entering the final quarter. That’s when the Lady
Cardinals outscored the Lady Blue Devils 19-13 to earn the win. Kawanda Galmore had 12 for Ashland. The Potts Camp boys lost their game to Ashland Saturday night. No other information was available on the game. Schedule The
Lady Cardinals and Cardinals (1-3) were scheduled to host Hickory Flat
Monday night of this week. They go to Alcorn Central Friday and then
play in the West Union Tournament Saturday.
