Turner, Garrison winners

Mark Turner and Harvey Garrison won Marshall County School Board races in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial totals.

In District 1’s four precincts, Turner received 545 votes and beat incumbent Terry Rodgers, who got 472.

In District 2’s five precincts, the incumbent Garrison was re-elected. He got 632 votes to challenger Raymond Spight’s 558.

The other races on the ballot Tuesday included a hotly-contested congressional battle and several judicial contests. All involved voting from more than one county and districtwide totals were not available at press time.

Unofficial results from only Marshall County follow.

• U.S. House of Representatives, 1st Congressional District – Travis Childers, 5,944 votes; Alan Nunnelee, 3,646.

• Court of Appeals Judge, District 1, Position 2 – Donna M. Barnes, 3,974; Kelly L. Mims, 3,294.

• Chancery Court Judge, District 18, Place 2 – Edwin Roberts Jr., 4,366; Helen Kennedy Robinson, 3,142.

• Circuit Court Judge, District 3, Place 2 – Shirley Byers, 5,550; Robert W. Elliott, 3,581.

• Circuit Court Judge, District 3, Place 3 – John A. Gregory, 4,704; Tom Levidiotis, 1,415, Dave Rozier, 1,165.

At press-time Tuesday night, Nunnelee had been declared the winner in the congressional race by other media sources. He had taken 56 percent of the votes tallied.

Showing big leads at press time in district judicial races were Roberts, Elliott and Gregory.

Marshall County had a good 50 percent turnout.
