County teams ready to open basketball seasons By BARRY BURLESON Editor Basketball season is here. Teams have warmed up with jamborees or pre-season tournaments, with the regular season tipping off this week and next. The
Marshall Academy Lady Patriots hosted a tournament last week and the MA
boys held a jamboree Saturday in the Patriot gym. Both teams were
scheduled to go to Lee (Marianna, Ark.) Monday night of this week. They
host Tunica Academy next Monday, Nov. 8, and Myrtle next Tuesday, Nov.
9. Marshall squads visit Marvell (Ark.) Thursday, Nov. 11. The boys
will play in the Crossover Classic (public schools vs. private schools)
Saturday, Nov. 13, at Oxford High School. The Pats will face Lewisburg. The Holly Springs High School and H.W. Byers teams participated in a jamboree at Center Hill Saturday. The
Hawks and Lady Hawks will play in the Senatobia Classic this Saturday,
Nov. 6, and then compete in the Coldwater Tournament Nov. 11-13. Road
trips follow to H.W. Byers, the Senatobia Tournament and the Byhalia
Tournament. Holly High teams will not play at home until after
Thanksgiving – Tuesday, Nov. 30. The Byers Lions
and Lady Lions will host Independence next Monday, Nov. 8, and then
visit Ashland Friday, Nov. 12. The girls go to the Newton Classic
Saturday, Nov. 13. Potts Camp basketball are set
to tip off the 2010-11 season next Monday, Nov. 8, at Oxford. The
Cardinals and Lady Cardinals will visit Mooreville Tuesday, Nov. 9 and
go to Falkner Friday, Nov. 12. Their first home game is Saturday, Nov.
13, versus Ashland. The Byhalia Indians and Lady Indians played in a jamboree this past Saturday at Independence. They
begin their regular season this Saturday, Nov. 6, at home versus
Independence. Next Tuesday, Nov. 9, the Byhalia teams go to Ashland.
After a road trip to H.W. Byers and a home date with Olive Branch, the
Indians and Lady Indians will host a Thanksgiving Tournament November
26-27. Joining them for the big event will be Center Hill, Fayette
Ware, Holly Springs and Oak Haven.
