Runners going to state
By BARRY BURLESON
Potts Camp cross country teams enjoyed success Saturday in the division meet at New Albany.
Both the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals finished second behind first-place teams from Myrtle.
Seven Potts Camp runners earned all-division honors. They are Cardinals Kris Roberts, Devin Holmes, Brantley Harris and Matt Swinford and Lady Cardinals Shauna Haney, Tenesha Woods and Dana Jeffries.
Eight girls and eight boys will be advancing to the Class 1A state meet on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Mississippi College in Clinton. Competition starts at 10 a.m.
Lady Cardinals going on to state competition are Shauna Haney, Tenesha Woods, Dana Jeffries, Amber Cooper, Abby Farr, Anna Summerlin, Monesha Pegues and Rachel Smith.
Cardinals moving on to the state meet are Kris Roberts, Matt Swinford, Devin Holmes, Brantley Harris, Jordan Harris, Nick Vondran, Miles Moore and Ben Bolden.
The Potts Camp cross country teams are coached by Karen Green.
“I have a great bunch of kids this year,” she said. “We had a total of 20 boys and 16 girls run in the division meet. I have never had that many runners in cross country since we started the program back in the fall of 1993.
“We have made some improvement throughout the year, but we will have to run better times to bring home a championship.
“I would like to thank all my parents for their help and support that they have given me this year. With so many athletes participating I really needed their help. We have had a great crowd of parents at each meet, and this has really helped to motivate our runners.”
