MA earns playoff spot

Five days prior to Marshall’s big district game versus Indianola, coach Keith Wicker said his Patriots had to run the football successfully and cut their penalties.
Marshall Academy rushed for 322 yards in a 25-6 win over the Colonels Friday night. Chase Ferrell gained 120 on 17 carries and John Tomlinson 108 on 10 carries, all of his coming in the first half before going out with an injury.
Hawks fall hard to East Side in district outing

High-flying East Side invaded Holly Springs Friday night and returned to Cleveland with an easy district win.
Holly High was first over the ball versus the Trojans at Sam Coopwood Park. It was a very short possession because the Hawks went four and out in a matter of seconds.
Potts Camp tunes up for division meet
The Potts Camp girls ran their way to a first-place finish in 1A at a cross country meet in Corinth Saturday.
The boys placed second in their classification.

Big win in ‘Swamp’
After the defeat of the Crimson Tide by the Gamecocks, Alabama tumbled seven places to number eight and it was not speculated that they would move up many notches, if any, after their homecoming victory over the Ole Miss Rebel-Bears.
Monday night football
The Potts Camp Cardinals defeated Coldwater 14-0 Monday night on the road.
The Cardinals, led by head coach Shane Stone, were up 6-0 at the half and added a fourth-quarter touchdown to secure the win. Their season mark improved to 5-2.
More details on the shutout victory will be published in next week’s newspaper.
Potts Camp closes the football season Thursday night versus Jumpertown. The games, which will begin with a junior high contest at 5:30, will be played at Marietta.
Cards, Lions end seasons Thursday
Potts Camp and H.W. Byers football teams close their seasons this week.
The Cardinals play Jumpertown Thursday at Thrasher. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
The Lions face Houlka Thursday at Okolona. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
College golf at Kirkwood
Union University played steady golf in blustery conditions at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs Thursday to capture the 2010 Blue Mountain College Fall Invitational.

Boys jamboree set for Oct. 30
Marshall Academy will host a junior high and varsity boys jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Hunter Safety Class Nov. 4-6 at Potts Camp
A Hunter Safety Class will be held November 4, 5, from 6 p.m. until and Saturday, November 6, 8 a.m. until at the Potts Camp High School library, Hwy. 178, Potts Camp.
Applicants must be at least 10 years of age and bring their Social Security numbers.

MA soccer team hosting fund-raiser
The Marshall Academy girls soccer team is sponsoring a haunted golf course hayride October 28-31.
The event, which will be held at Kirkwood, is from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on October 28 and 31 and from 6:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. on October 29-30.
There will be a concession stand available, plus face painting and pumpkin painting.
The cost of the wagon ride is $5 per person.
