Holly Springs bypass opens By SUE WATSON
“A dream come true” is what U.S. Rep. Travis Childers called the opening of the North Holly Springs bypass road Tuesday after 18 years of waiting. Childers was among a long list of county, city and state officials who patched together the tapestry of hope and waiting to arrive at the remarkable conclusion of construction of the just over four-mile stretch of road. It will be designated as a Highway 4 and Highway 7 truck route. Foot chase leads to cocaine arrest By SUE WATSON A Tupelo man was arrested on drug-related charges on Highway 78 October 10, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Officer Rick Preciado stopped the vehicle near the West Holly Springs Exit as it travelled in the east-bound lanes.
County account hit with check forgery By SUE WATSON One of the bank accounts held by Marshall County took a hit from an individual who married the account and routing number with an innocent victim’s identity and cashed two checks - both in stores in the Memphis/Germantown area. Absentee voting underway By BARRY BURLESON Absentee voting is available for the Tuesday, Nov. 2, general election. Absentee ballots, for those who will be unable to make it to the polls on election day for a variety of reasons, are available through the Marshall County Circuit Clerk’s office. Holly Springs chamber debuts new coordinator By SUE WATSON Rebecca Hilliard Bourgeois has accepted a part-time coordinator’s position with the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. Marshall County Justice Court stands proud By SUE WATSON There are some changes and upgrades in technologies, but many of the facts about Marshall County Justice Court are directly connected with the people served and those providing the service. Correction and clarification In an article that ran in the October 14 issue of The South Reporter entitled “City leaders discuss policies” there is an error. The Byhalia Police Department responded to 50 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 1; miscellaneous, 9; escorts, 6; juvenilerelated calls, 1; thefts, 2; disturbances, 2; animal-related calls, 1; assists, 4; motor vehicle accidents, 5; fires, 7; burglaries, 2; and medical calls, 10. Byhalia police officers made seven arrests during the past week. Holly Springs police respond to assaults, burglaries, more Holly Springs police officers investigated the following 17 incidents last week, according to chief Robert Pearson.
