Supervisors mull redistricting By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors expressed worry recently about redrawing of supervisor district lines in time for the March 1, 2011, qualifying deadline for candidates.
City leaders discuss policies By SUE WATSON The Holly Springs mayor and board of aldermen reviewed some employee management concerns mentioned in a recent audit - with six of the issues brought by the mayor for discussion. Carrington named to Hall of Fame By SUE WATSON Bob Carrington was elected to the Mississippi Municipal League’s Hall of Fame for his 30 years of service as an alderman with the Town of Byhalia.
Road work rolls on while sun shines By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors continues to work to get roads in shape for the coming winter. Reseal and overlay of patched-up spots in the county roads are underway, according to Larry Hall, county administrator/road manager. The Byhalia Police Department responded to 48 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 7; miscellaneous, 12; escorts, 5; disturbances, 4; animalrelated calls, 1; assists, 3; motor vehicle accidents, 7; fires, 2; and medical calls, 7. Byhalia police officers also made eight arrests during the past week. City police respond to assaults, mischief The Holly Springs Police Department reported 16 incidents for the week, according to chief Robert Pearson. Workshop focuses on legal services By SUE WATSON If a person has lost his job and is in danger of bankruptcy, or if he needs other types of legal help for problems of a non-criminal nature, North Mississippi Rural Legal Services may be able to provide an attorney at no charge, according to Ben Cole, director of the 39-county area. Perfect Score By BARRY BURLESON Calvin James Jr. aimed for a perfect score and he got it. The sophomore at Holly Springs High School made a 500 on the Biology I test, administered through the Mississippi Department of Education Subject Area Testing Program. He took the test in the 2009-10 school year as a freshman. Spider hunt this Saturday night Halloween is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate than to look for spiders. Three sentenced in voter fraud case Three defendants in the Benton County voter fraud case were sentenced Monday, Attorney General Jim Hood said. |
