News BriefsFly-in set for Saturday at Farese Airpark On Saturday, October 9, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., everyone is invited to a fly-in located at the Farese Airpark. It is located on the John Booth Farese farm, one mile south of Ashland off Mississippi Highway 5. Turn onto the paved drive adjacent to the South Ashland Church of Christ and follow the signs. There will be complimentary barbecue, hamburgers and hotdogs. There will be numerous airplanes participating and there may be opportunities for plane rides. Come join the fun. Supervisors issue burn ban for county The Marshall County Board of Supervisors, with approval from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, has issued a burn ban for all outdoor burning in Marshall County. Hugh Hollowell, emergency management coordinator, said the burn ban for Marshall was instituted October 1 and is set to expire October 31 unless significant amounts of rainfall blanket the general county area. Thirty-four counties are posted with burn bans on the Mississippi Forestry Commission’s website (www.mfc.ms.gov/burn_bans.htm). Anyone who knowingly and willfully violates a burn ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined not less than $100 if convicted (Section 49-19-351, Mississippi Code 1972 as amended. Forestry Field Day Saturday in Byhalia The 14th annual Field Day, sponsored by the Marshall County Forestry Association, is set for this Saturday, Oct. 9. The location for the event is the Fitts property in Byhalia, 1018 Highway 309 South. Take exit 14 off U.S. 78, go south, a half of a mile off U.S. 78 on the right. The theme this year is “Multi-Use Tree Farm.” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Tours begin promptly at 9 a.m. Tour stops will include small acreage harvest, hack and spray release – site prep, pine thinning, agroforestry and CPR buffer strips. There will be demonstrations, exhibits and contests, and participants can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a Stevens 512 Gold Wing, 20 gauge.
