OpinionFielder’s Choice Enjoyable trip to USM I spent Saturday night at The Rock. That’s the nickname for the University of Southern Mississippi football stadium. Close to Nowhere My mother was a Yankee I never understood, as a kid at the dinner table, why my dad made such a fuss about my mother being from “up North.” My mom was a pretty good cook and unless she’d made beans and cornbread (now, one of my favorites!), I was generally pretty happy with whatever was on the table. Letters To The Editor Thanks to everyone: On Sept. 14, a benefit program was given in my honor to help raise money for a kidney transplant. I would like to thank everyone who came out to participate; it went well. I am especially appreciative to Monet Autry, Douglas Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Connery DeBerry, Kenny Dickerson and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept. for helping put everything together. Thank you and God bless. Jarvis Scott Thanks to sheriff and crew: Cayce Fire Department says thanks to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson and his crew; and to each person who participated in the annual fish fry held at the fire station on October 1. Thanks again. Thanks to Jamie Woods: She and I know this, but I wanted others to know that she deserves a special thank you for all she did for the young people in 4-H clubs. When she came to Holly Springs, she had a great influence on my life and taught me many things about cooking, canning and serving. Our team won first place in the county and district. One of the special times was when she carried a car full of girls to MS State to compete in the state event. It seemed like a long trip then, and even though we didn’t win first in the state, we had a memorable time under her leadership. She was a dedicated leader who encouraged and inspired me. She instilled within me a desire to always improve my efforts. Thank you, again, Miss Jamie.
