James
Curtis Evans, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Benton County, died
Jan. 14, 2010 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He was a
member of Greenwood MB Church in Lamar and disabled. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Ashland High School Auditorium.
Burial was in Evans Family Cemetery in Benton County. Rev. Huston Evans
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves a daughter, Jeanine
Charisse Evans of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Shirley Johnson of
Chicago, Ill., Earnestine Scott of Holly Springs, Janevial Triplett of
St. Louis, Mo.; and four brothers, Algee Evans, MacArthur Evans, both
of Memphis, Tenn., Rev. Huston Evans, William Beck Jr. both of Ashland. Pallbearers were Alan Beck, Brandon Bell, Nicholas Evans, Alfred Evans, Theo Triplett II and Demarco Davis. Eunice Juanita Gray Eunice
Juanita Gray, 80, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 21, 2010 at her home. She
was the widow of Hoyt Gray and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. John Parker officiated. She
leaves a son, Dickey Gray of Holly Springs; three daughters, Barbara
Hays, Cathy Osteen, both of Oxford, Nancy Boone of Holly Springs; two
brothers, Bobby Duke of Tupelo, Tommy Duke of Algoma; a sister, Betty
Sue Walls of Pontotoc; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. Donna Eugenia Ungaro Herron Donna Eugenia Ungaro Herron, 53, of Byhalia, died Jan. 20, 2010. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. She
leaves her husband, Jimmy Herron; two daughters, Brandy Young, Melodi
Herron, both of Southaven; a son, Jim Herron of Byhalia; three sisters,
Linda Elliston of Bartlett, Fran Pyles of High Springs, Fla., Faye
Comer of Heber Springs, Ark.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Johnson. Howard Edward Jeffries Jr.
Howard
Edward Jeffries Jr., 37, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 17, 2010 at his
home. He was a mechanic with South Side Tire and Auto in Holly Springs. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 24 at Wilkins Chapel CME Church in
Waterford, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery.

in charge of arrangements. He leaves a sister, Angela Gordon of Memphis, Tenn.; and his grandmother, Frances Carlyn Warren Jeffries of Holly Springs. Pallbearers

Mario Taylor, Carlos Jeffries, Jemaris Lane and Byron Barnes. Honorary

Johnson Jr., 19, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 16, 2010 at Baptist
Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was a member of Mt. Gilead CME
Church and a 2009 graduate of Potts Camp High School. Services
were held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 23 at Galena School Auditorium. Burial
was in Mt. Gilead CME Church Cemetery. Elder Actavatis Allen
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his mother, Ada Wooten

Irvin
Hart Naylor Sr., of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Holly Springs, died
January 2, 2010. He was a retired minister of the Kentucky Region
Annual Conference of the Second Episcopal District of the CME Church
and he was retired from the Kentucky Department of Rehabilitation
Services. Services were held at noon Jan. 9 at
Phillips Memorial CME Church, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
A.D. Porter and Sons Funeral Home, Louisville, Ky., was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his wife, Delores Naylor;
a daughter, Cremolia Scott, of Las Vegas, NV; a son, Irvin H. Naylor
Jr., of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Henry Naylor, of Holly Springs; four
sisters, Maggie Walker, of Jackson, Mich., Christine Steven, Jackson,
Agnes Foster and Teresa Jeffries, both of Holly Springs; seven
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mary June Rhodes Mary
June Rhodes, 77, of Red Banks, died Jan. 20, 2010 at Baptist East
Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Harold Rhodes and a
Baptist. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. She
leaves five sons, Charles Rhodes, Luke Rhodes, Dell Rhodes, Eddie
Rhodes, all of Mt. Pleasant, Mark Rhodes of Cordova, Tenn.; two
daughters, Toni Bobbit, Carole Gossage, both of Hernando; 10
grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. Laurie Ann Hankins Russell Laurie
Ann Hankins Russell, 75, of Columbia, Ky., died Jan. 13, 2010 at
Russell County Hospital. She was the widow of Wayne Russell. She was
born and attended school in Potts Camp. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Adair County, Ky., on January 16. She
leaves a daughter, Louann Russell of Jamestown, Ky.; a son, Phillip
Russell of Somerset, Ky.; brothers and sisters, Pat Sheilds, Sue
Gilliam, Cindy Hankins, Jim Hankins, Evan Hankins; four grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace (Dolly) Shaw. Jamie Ruth Hudson Smith Jamie
Ruth Hudson Smith, 54, of Byhalia, died Jan. 19, 2010 at Methodist
Hospital in Germantown, Tenn. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of
Memories. Burial was in County Line Cemetery in Walnut. Bro. Jonathan
Cates officiated. She leaves her husband, Henry
Smith Jr.; sons, Dewayne McCreless of Corinth, Shane McCreless of
Slayden, Clint Jones of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, April Barkley of
Byhalia; her mother, Clydie Crabb Hudson of Byhalia; a sister, Barbara
Jeffries of Walnut; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Hudson. Robin Vaughan Sparkman
Robin
Vaughan Sparkman, 40, of Byhalia, died Jan. 16, 2010 at her home. She
was a graduate of Fayette Academy in Somerville, Class of 1987 and a
resident of the Somerville Community for much of her life before moving
to Byhalia five years ago. Services were held
at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the First Assembly of God Church in
Collierville, Tenn., where she was a member. Burial was in Somerville
City Cemetery, Somerville, Tenn. Pastor Randy Brummitt officiated.

charge of arrangements. She leaves her husband
of 11 years, Dennis G. Sparkman; four sons, Justin Hughes, Grant
Hughes, both of Oakland, Tenn., Bryce Sparkman, Blaine Sparkman, both
of Byhalia; stepdaughter, Stephanie Sparkman of Oakland, Tenn.;
parents, Cheri Creasy Vaughan, Dr. Johnnie R. Vaughan of Somerville,
Tenn.; and her brother, J.B. Vaughan, serving in the U.S. Army in

leaves his mother, Elaine Stanton of Hickory Flat; two brothers, Bobby

Elizabeth Rucker Waller, 85, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2010 at
Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was the widow of Willie Allen
Waller. She was a member of Hopewell No. 1 MB Church, a member of
mother’s board and a retired caretaker in private homes. She
leaves four daughters, Brenda Waller, Tina Zinn, Nicole Washington,
Erika Washington, all of Holly Springs; six sons, Elbert Waller of
Atlanta, Ga., Clinton Waller, Elder Larry Waller, both of Aurora, Ill.,
Michael Waller of Las Vegas, Nev., Ralph Waller, Donald Waller, both of
Holly Springs; two brothers, James Rucker, Eddie Rucker, both of
Memphis, Tenn.; 62 grandchildren, 107 great-grandchildren and 28
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by five daughters, Jessie Waller Turnage, Barbara Waller
Washington, Shelia Waller, Maelena Waller Aldridge, Fannie Waller
Lyles; three sons, Mark Waller, Hubert Waller, Fred Waller; three
brothers, Carl, Fred and Herman Rucker; and six sisters, Mildred,
Gennie, Jessie, Effie, Louise and Delma. Darnell Zinn
Darnell Zinn, 52, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2010 at his home. He was a lineman with Holly Springs Utility Department. Services
were held at 3 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Lamar,
where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. J.W.
