The first-year H.W. Byers varsity football team got its first taste of victory Friday night in game four of the season. Coach James Kimbrough’s Lions clobbered Jumpertown 60-0. “It’s
just a start,” said Kimbrough, who has led the revival of football at
the Marshall County school. “We knew we could have success. We had some
tough opponents to start the season but it’s the only way to build a
program, even though you might take some losses. The kids get better

Marshall junior high Patriots fall to Kirk Academy The Marshall Academy junior high football team saw its record go even at 2-2 with a loss at Kirk Thursday night. The Patriots grabbed an early 6-0 lead but it was pretty much all Raiders after that. The final score was 32-12. Full Story

Fred Carlisle scores double eagle On September
19, Fred Carlisle of Holly Springs scored a double eagle on the Par 5,
#7 hole at Kirkwood National using his driver and his nine iron. The double eagle was witnessed by Rex Rentrop and Larry Brooks.
Holly Springs Parks and Recreation continues soccer league registration Registration
is open for the City of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation youth coed
soccer, ages 5 through 10. The deadline for application is Sept. 24. Applications
are available at City Hall. The cost is $30 per child. Payment can be
turned in with the form at City Hall, 160 South Memphis Street, Holly
Springs, MS 38635. A meeting for parents and
guardians is scheduled for 6 p.m., Sept. 23 at the Eddie L. Smith
