Elizabeth Skelton of Marshall slides into home for a run. |
Marshall Academy’s offense was in high gear Tuesday of last week as the Lady Patriots downed Indianola Academy 7-3. Getting two hits each in the home game were Kat Moore, Chelsey Gilliam, Darcie Gibson and Hailey McMinn. Meanwhile,
MA pitcher Mallary Covington pitched a complete game for the win. She
struck out eight, walked one and gave up just three hits. The
Lady Pats scored two runs in the first inning. Moore led off with a
hit; Maura Autry and Gilliam walked; and then Gibson singled for two
runs-batted-in. They added three more runs in the
third. Gilliam led off the inning with a double. An Elizabeth Skelton
sacrifice moved her to third. Gibson walked. Then Covington put the
ball in play, reached on an error and scored two runs. Hannah Pasco
followed with a successful bunt, and McMinn got a single to score
another run in the inning. Marshall’s final two
runs came in the fourth. Moore led off with a single. Gilliam then
singled to score Moore. Skelton was hit by a pitch, and then Gibson
singled to send Gilliam home. Indianola scored all three of its runs in the top of the sixth, thanks to a leadoff hit and a couple of MA errors. The
Lady Patriots (8-11) played at Indianola Academy Monday of this week
and at Magnolia Heights Tuesday. Next Monday, Sept. 20, they host Delta
at 4 p.m., and next Tuesday, Sept. 21, they go to North Delta for a 4
p.m. matchup. |
