Byhalia turned to its ground game in the second half Friday night and rolled over rival Holly Springs. The
Indians, playing on their home field, stretched an 8-0 halftime
advantage to a 32-0 win. They upped their record to 3-0. The Hawks

Strickland receives Hall of Fame honor David “Nub” Strickland had a special visitor last month bringing well-deserved recognition. On
Friday, Aug. 27, Johnny Allen, president of Northeast Mississippi
Community College, came to Holly Springs to present Strickland with a
plaque and medallion, commemorating his recent induction into the
Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame. Full Story

Lady Patriots pick up pair of victories The
Marshall Academy softball team picked up two wins last week, one in
extra innings over Hebron Christian School and the other a rout of West
Memphis. The Lady Pats pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth to beat Hebron 2-1 August 30. Full Story
Junior high Patriots dominate West Memphis The
Marshall Academy junior high football team evened its early season mark
at 1-1 Thursday with a 34-14 win over West Memphis Christian. Quarterback Dakota Dailey rushed for four touchdowns and running back Brian Novarese scored the other. Full Story
Byers plans homecoming The H.W. Byers family
extends an invitation to the 2010 homecoming celebration. The school is
excited to have reestablished its football program. All
former coaches and players of the H.W. Byers/Sandflat football program
are urged to be in attendance for the homecoming game Friday, Sept. 17. Pre-game
festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. During the pre-game ceremony, former
coaches and players will be recognized for their contributions to the
H.W. Byers/Sandflat football program. All former
coaches and players, please contact the school at 662-851-7826 to
submit your names for recognition during the pre-game festivities. The Lions host Jumpertown in football action Friday, Sept. 17, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Lions fall victim to Eagles’ rally By BARRY BURLESON Editor The H.W. Byers Lions had their first varsity football victory within their grasp Friday night. But they couldn’t hang on. Tupelo Christian rallied from a 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter and saddled the Lions with a 31-30 setback. Full Story

Soccer signup begins Registration is open for
the City of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation youth coed soccer, ages
5 through 10. The deadline for application is Sept. 24. Applications
are available at City Hall. The cost is $30 per child. Payment can be
turned in with the form at City Hall, 160 South Memphis Street, Holly
Springs, MS 38635. A meeting for parents and
guardians is scheduled for 6 p.m., Sept. 23 at the Eddie L. Smith

MA girls drop two games The Marshall Academy soccer team fell to Magnolia Heights and Immanuel Christian last week. As
has been the story much of the season, the early going proved to be the
Lady Patriots’ undoing at Senatobia August 30. MA lost 6-2. Full Story
