The first Byhalia/West Marshall County Relay for Life Thursday, Aug. 26, was well supported by the community.
The
event was added two months ago to the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce
calendar for this year based on how cancer has touched so many lives,
according to Sarah Sawyer, executive director. “It was a personal mission and I wanted to do what I could at this time,” she said. “The event was a moving experience to recognize the strong survivors, caregivers and those who have gone before us.” Melonie
Counce, with the American Cancer Society office in Tupelo, assisted
with organizing the Relay for Life, which was held in the Byhalia Town
Hall gymnasium. | Photo by Barry Burleson
Honoring America

“I appreciate all of her efforts; plus, she was fun to work with,” Sawyer said. Many folks in this area did not get to participate in the Marshall County Relay for Life earlier this year, she said. “We
opened a venue to help raise more funds for the American Cancer Society
and bring others together from Marshall and DeSoto counties.” Sawyer
encourages everyone to participate and donate to the annual Marshall
County Relay for Life in Holly Springs to be held again on Friday, June
10, 2011. |
