Potts Camp is rocking this week as state curriculum scores arrived for the 2009-10 school year tests. Teacher
Vickie Teel is perhaps the most excited because her sixth graders last
year earned the highest scores for math in the state - 93.7 percent of
the class scored proficient or advanced. Full Story

Childers, Nunnelee talk issues By SUE WATSON

quarterly luncheon of the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce presented
the top runners for the U.S. representative seat, incumbent Travis
Childers and state Sen. Alan Nunnelee. The
largest crowd ever to attend the second quarter luncheon – over 140 –
turned out Thursday to enjoy barbecue and hear the Democratic and
Republican candidates in Mississippi’s First Congressional District

Annual hummingbird fest Sept. 10-12 This fall,
thousands of ruby-throated hummingbirds will begin to migrate from
Canada towards their winter home in Mexico and Central America. Some
will travel down along Highway 61 south of Memphis, stopping to refuel
at the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center, near Holly Springs. Full Story

Paving of bypass
A
project begun under the late Holly Springs Mayor Eddie Lee Smith is
being completed this summer. The paving of the North Holly Springs
bypass will complete the loop around the north part of the city
connecting Highways 311, 7 North and 4 East with Highways 178 and 78. |

May 1-2 flood that did an estimated $365,500 in damages to county
infrastructure is being paid for with federal and state disaster relief
funds, according to county administrator Larry Hall. The county and
state are picking up 12.5 percent each of the tab. Full Story
Byhalia officers respond to accident, fires The Byhalia Police Department responded to 18 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 1;
miscellaneous calls, 10; juvenile-related calls, 1; domestic, 1;
assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; fires, 2; damaged property. 1; Byhalia police officers also made five arrests during the past week, acccording to Looney.
