Daisy Briggs Daisy Briggs, 81, of Lamar, died Aug. 9, 2010, at Delta Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Timothy Briggs Sr. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Concord MB Church in Lamar. Burial
was in the church cemetery. Rev. Clyde Williams officiated. Serenity
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves two
daughters, Jeanette Garrison, Bernice Briggs, both of Lamar; three
sons, Tommy Briggs of Memphis, Tenn., Lawrence Briggs of Lamar, Timothy
Briggs Jr. of Lamar; a godson, Leo Fields of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister,
Geneva Pye of Lamar; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, SFC Joe Edward Briggs and Robert Lee Briggs. Willie Roosevelt Batts Willie
Roosevelt Batts, 85, died Aug. 5, 2010. He was born in Benton County on
March 24, 1935. He was the widower of Carlene Batts, his wife of 56
years. He worked for Mitchell Feldman, Apoca and Park Rite Systems for
more than 50 years. He was a member of Bethel AME Church of Detroit,
Mich. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 13 at Greater
Christ Baptist Church, Detroit, Mich. Rev. James C. Perkins officiated.
Burial was in Samuel Chapel MB Church Cemetery in Ashland. Cantrell
Funeral Home, Detroit, Mich., was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves his children, Tommie, Teresa, Kathy, Maria, Erle, Mark, Sheila
and Rodney; a sister, Delilah Evans of Holly Springs; two brothers, Joe
Louis Batts of Detroit, Mich., Alfred Kimbrough of Mississippi; 20
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Odell Batts; and children Suzie, Ricky and Corey. Pallbearers
were Carell Campbell, Clyde Campbell, Marquiese Evans, Lamarcus
Hampton, Timothy Hampton, James Hudson, Mario Hudson and T.H. Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Batts, Mark Batts, Rodney Batts, Stanley
Batts, Tommy Batts and Alfred Kimbrough. Vernice Brooks Vernice
Brooks, 75, of Senatobia, died Aug. 7, 2010, at Baptist DeSoto
Hospital. She was the widow of Chester Brooks Sr. She was a nurse’s
assistant. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 12 at Lewer
Chapel Cemetery. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rodgers Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves three daughters,
Vernestine Bush of Knoxville, Tenn., Chestine Fondren of Coldwater,
Antornette Brooks of Southaven; two sons, Chester Brooks Jr. of
Memphis, Tenn., Willie Gene Brooks of Southaven; four sisters, Huldia
Jane Boyd of Holly Springs, Earlene McCormick of Senatobia, Rosie
Smith, Ruby Means, both of Memphis, Tenn.; four brothers, Jessie Lee
Jackson, Robert Jackson, both of Holly Springs, James A. Jackson of
Senatobia, Wilson Jackson of Kosciusko; 10 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren. Mildred E. Carpenter Mildred E.
Carpenter, 84, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 13, 2010, at Baptist North
Mississippi Hospital in Oxford. The widow of William “Bill” Carpenter,
she was a Christian and a homemaker. Services were held at 2 p.m.
on Aug. 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill

Springs; a sister, Ouida Gillaspy of Carrington, Tenn.; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Carpenter. Gavin Marcus Daniels Gavin Marcus Daniels, infant, of Red Banks, died Aug. 9, 2010, at Baptist Hospital-Desoto in Southaven. Graveside
services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 12 at Providence UM Church
Cemetery in Abbeville. Rev. Juanita Booker officiated. Hodges-Freeman
Funeral Home, Oxford, was in charge of arrangements. He leaves
his parents, Marcus and LaKesha Flemons-Daniels of Red Banks; two
brothers, Marcus Caleb Daniels, Nicholas Daniels, both of Red Banks;
his grandmother, Pearlie Farrow of Abbeville; grandfather and
stepgrandmother, Kelion and Michelle Farrow of Oxford; grandparents
Johnny and Delcenia Daniels of Holly Springs; and great-grandmother,
Alice Daniels of Prentiss. Robert Landon Davis Robert Landon Davis, 73, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 13, 2010, at his home. He was a Baptist and a logger. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

Randol Rutherford, 75, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 14. He was retired
from Continental Plastics, where he worked as a supervisor. Services

Montean White Tipler, 82, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 11, 2010, at
Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of the Mother’s Board,
Order of Eastern Star, Greenwood Chapter #58 and a retired line
operator with Hoover Company in Holly Springs. Services were held
at 3 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar, where she was a
member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Houston Evans
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves her husband, Albert Tipler; four
daughters, Rosie Hunt, Carolyn Porter, Michelle Matthews, all of Holly
Springs, Venssa Tucker of Southaven; seven sons, Gaither Tipler, Dexter
Tipler, both of Holly Springs, James Tipler, Cortez Tipler, both of
Oakland, Calif., Alvin Tipler of Pirmasens, Germany, William Tipler of
Memphis, Tenn., Gary Tipler of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Alice C.
Garner of Blue Mountain, Tommie White of Detroit, Mich.; 46
grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by six children, Alberta Foster, Althea Coleman, Waurene Tipler,
Felecia Tipler, Steven Tipler, Michael Tipler. Pallbearers were
John Matthews, Trevin Tipler, Russell Hunt Jr., Deanthony Tipler, Alan
Porter and Ralph Tipler. Honorary pallbearers were William Tipler,
James Tipler, Cortez Tipler, Alvin Tipler, Craig Tipler, Gaither
Tipler, Dexter Tipler, Garry Tipler, Faroh Hicks, Melvin Everett III.
