Saturday remembering the now-dissolved Marshall County Agricultural
School. Included was the auctioning of a brick from the girls’
dormitory built in 1921. Graduates who attended spanned more than 30
years from 1921 to 1970, the year of the last graduating class. Presents Mayflower Compact Judge
L.A. Smith presented a framed copy of the Mayflower Compact to the
Marshall County Library last week. Judge Smith is a member of the
Mayflower Descendants of Mississippi, a division of the national
Mayflower Descendants. Judge Smith is a descendant of Edward Doten,
whose signature is on the document. 50 Years Ago - August 4, 1960 Vice president nominee greets Marshall County citizen Vice
President Richard M. Nixon shook hands with Marie Jenkins, delegate, at
the 1960 Republican National Convention, which opened Monday, July 25.
Mrs. Jenkins lives in Red Banks. Hester Ferris entertained with sock dance Kay
Thompson, Becky Humphreys, Ellen Parnell, Rita Cochran and Constance
Lanier entertained with a “sock dance” on the lawn and patio of the
Thompson home Tuesday evening, honoring Hester Ferris of Vicksburg.
Hurricane lamps lighted the walk to the back lawn. Cold drinks and hors
d’oeuvres were served during the evening by the hostesses, assisted by
their parents.
