Lady Patriots open season Tuesday By BARRY BURLESON Editor A rebuilding season for the Marshall Academy softball season starts next Tuesday. The Lady Patriots, with all but two players in ninth grade or below, will host Washington School beginning at 4 p.m. The only upperclassmen returning for the 2010 campaign are Mallary Covington and Chelsey Gilliam. “We’ve
had some good practices,” head coach Susan Rodgers said. “We’ve still
not had everybody at practice, because of vacations, girls playing on
summer teams and everything else. But the girls are working hard and
looking forward to getting started.” MA won back-to-back Class AA state championships in 2007 and 2008 and the coveted overall crown in 2008. Last year a young Lady Patriot squad fell short of the playoffs.
