County sheriff’s investigators took two men into custody for
questioning in connection with a shooting death at 5514 Old Highway 7
South Tuesday afternoon, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. One of the men transported for questioning to the county jail is a suspect in the shooting and the other a witness, he said. Law officers withheld the names of individuals who may have knowledge of the incident, pending further investigation. The
victim, Lakeith Jones, 33, of 103 Newlin Lane, Holly Springs, died in
the shooting, which authorities are treating as a homicide, Dickerson
said. Jones had multiple gunshot wounds and his body was transported to
Jackson for autopsy. A large number of community
residents and relatives of the victim and the suspects were at the
scene mid-afternoon waiting on word from investigators who were
gathering evidence. The large, new, two-story
brick house was cordoned off while 30 to 40 individuals waited on
porches, in the highway and under trees. The shooting took place in the carport but the weapon had not been recovered at presstime, Dickerson said. A search warrant was obtained and investigators continued to seek evidence related to the incident at presstime. Anyone
who has information that may help investigators solve this crime is
asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-729-2169 or the sheriff’s
department at 662-252-1311. Callers may leave their information while
remaining anonymous.
