Giving hope to students
A
new crop of teachers was trained in Holly Springs this summer to work
with the Mississippi Teacher Corp program at Ole Miss. Some of these
new, first-year teachers will be plowing the fertile minds of Byhalia
Middle School students this fall. The Teacher Corps Summer School
program at Holly Springs High School served 230 students with the help
of 10 team (lead) teachers and 23 first-year teachers. Both high school
and middle school students enrolled this summer in the program. From
left are Derek King, first-year teacher from Birmingham, Ala.; Andrea
Buccilla, first-year from Columbus, Ohio; Catherine Schmidt,
first-year, from Boston, Mass.; Kelly Tellis-Warren, first-year from
Cleveland, Ohio; Amani Floyd, third-year team teacher who worked at
North Panola High School last year; and Matthew Gioia, first-year from
Brooklin, Mass. All first-year teachers in the photo will be serving at
Byhalia Middle School this fall. Landon Pollard, new Byhalia Middle
School principal, is a Mississippi Teacher Corp graduate. Not shown are
Jake Roth, Teacher Corp summer school principal, and Dr. Ben Guest,
program manager, Mississippi Teacher Corp, Ole Miss. The Mississippi
Teacher Corps selects college graduates to teach in Mississippi public
schools and provides training, certification, full salary and benefits,
and a master’s degree in education from Ole Miss. Call Ben Guest at
662-915-5224 for additional information about opportunities with
Mississippi Teacher Corps. |
