Richard Brown
Richard (Buddy) Brown, 84, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 10, 2010 at his home. He was a retired farmer. Services
were held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 16 at Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar, where
he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Etoy Bogard
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves his caregivers, Bessie Brown Perry, Geneva Blackmon, both of Holly Springs; and his brother, S.P. Brown of Ashland. Pallbearers
were Chris Robinson, De’Undre Dortch, Charles Guy, Jarvis Robinson,
Earnest Blackmon and Jamie Guy. Honorary pallbearers were James C.
Dortch, Thomas L. Brown, J.T. Blackmon, Willie Brown and Clarence Brown. Ruby Jean Davis Ruby Jean Davis, 71, of Nesbit, died Jan. 15, 2010 in Hickory Flat. She was the widow of Hilton Davis and a Baptist. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. She
leaves three sons, Billy Davis, Danny Davis, both of Hickory Flat,
Michael Davis of Nesbit; a daughter, Dainne Logan of Nesbit; a sister,
Mary Byers of Byhalia; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Sara Ormon Davis Sara
Ormon Davis, 73, died Jan. 14, 2010 at Gwinnett Medical Center in
Georgia. She was born in the Liberty community in Benton County. She
was a graduate of Ashland High School and attended Dallas County
Community College in Dallas, Tx. She and her family lived in Texas for
17 years prior to moving to Georgia. A
celebration of life service was held on Jan. 17 at Wages Snellville
Chapel in Snellville, Ga. Another service will be held Jan. 23 at
Liberty United Methodist Church in Ashland. Burial will be in Liberty
Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is assisting in the arrangements. She
leaves her husband, Cecil (Pat) Davis; daughters Cynthia Davis
Wonnacott, Molly Davis Moore, Peggy Davis Storey; and six

Dunning, 77, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 16, 2010 at her home. She was
owner and operator of Corner Quick Stop and a member of Bethlehem
Methodist Church. Services were held at 11 a.m.
on Jan. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in
Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery. She leaves
her husband, Ralph Dunning; a son, Dwayne Dunning of Potts Camp; a
brother, J.B. Work of Potts Camp; four sisters, Jennie Mitchell of
Holly Springs, Lula Westmoreland of Cordova, Tenn., Agness Gordon of
Hernando, Ina Faye Thornton of Memphis; two grandchildren and a

Virginia Fant, 93, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 16, 2010 at Alliance
HealthCare. She was the widow of William Robert Fant Sr., a member of
First Baptist Church and a resident at Christopher’s Personal Care Home
in Holly Springs for two years. Graveside
services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr.
Curtis Ferrell officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves four sons, W.R. (Bobby)
Fant, Billy Thomas Fant, Joe S. Fant, all of Holly Springs, James
Edward Fant of Horn Lake; a brother, Andrew Carter of Ripley; her
caretaker, Nicholas Vasquez of Holly Springs; five grandchildren, eight

(Dan) Howell Jr., 79, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 10, 2010 at Baptist
Hospital-Desoto in Southaven. A member of Strawberry MB Church, he was
a church deacon, a member of the church choir, a member of Masonic
Lodge #339 and a retired security officer with Rust College. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Strawberry MB Church, where she was a
member. Rev. Willie Jeffries officiated. Burial was in the church

Hospital in Southaven. She was the widow of Harvey Eston Mask and a

Key, 34, died Jan. 16, 2010 at South Central Regional Medical Center in
Laurel. He was a lifelong resident of the Ellisville, MS School for the
Blind. Graveside services were held on Jan. 19

leaves his mother, Linda Key Holland, a sister, Annette Lode;
grandmother, Margaret Hudgins, all of Byhalia.; and grandfather, Curtis

B. Morgan, 81, of Ashland, died Jan. 6, 2010 at her home. She was the
widow of Roosevelt Morgan Sr. She joined Sand Hill Church and later
moved her membership and joined Palestine MB Church, where she served
on the usher board and the mother board. She was born April 29, 1928 in
Hughes, Ark. Services were held at 12 noon on
Jan. 14 at Palestine MB Church in Michigan City. Burial was in Samuel
Chapel Church Cemetery in Ashland. Pastor, Rev. James Williams,

leaves eight children, Roosevelt Morgan Jr. of Holly Springs, Walter

Palmer, 51, of Baldwyn, died Jan. 18, 2010 at North MS Medical Center.
He was an ambulance EMT for NMMC. He was a member of Casey Creek
Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. on
Jan. 20 at Casey Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Reeves
officiating. Burial was in Casey Creek Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home

wife, Lynette “Tootie” Baker Palmer; two daughters, Jennifer Bishop,
Autumn Bishop, both of Florida; his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Monty
Scherff of Ripley (formerly of Holly Springs); a sister, Chris Dunn of
Milan, Tenn.; five brothers, Carl Scherff of Tupelo, Fred Scherff of
Brandon, Virgil Scherff of Waterford, Jerry Palmer and Tim Scherff,
both of Ripley; and one grandchild, Peyton Henry of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Travis L. Palmer. Pallbearers

was the widow of Simon Tucker and a retired domestic worker in private
homes in Holly Springs. Services were held at 12
noon on Jan. 15 at Grays Chapel CME Church, where she was a member.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F.

leaves two daughters, Pauletta Robinson, Bessie McKinnon, both of
