Close to Nowhere By Linda Jones Cranky Joneses Normally, my house is like the Cleavers’. You remember Beaver Cleaver, his mother June, dad Ward and brother Wally, don’t you? The
house was always perfect, June had on a dainty apron over her pristine
and pressed dress. Ward was always in a sweater and slacks, as he
relaxed around the house. Wally was even spotlessly clean unless he was
playing football. The Beaver? He was another
story. Sometimes he got into trouble and his hair would get mussed. Or
his shirttail might come untucked. My house is exactly like that! And if you believe me, then I have a nice, beachfront condo right smack on the Gulf to sell you. Pandemonium has run amok at the Joneses’ house! Pop,
recovering from hearts stents, another heart cath and with just plain
ole heart problems, has decided that maybe I’m just a tad cranky after
the brown recluse spider bite and he keeps telling me to “Snap out of
it!” Son Kris has been sick this week also. He
even missed church Sunday, which is rare for him. He takes care of our
canned music during the worship service, so he’s missed a lot when
he’s not there! So, Pop’s cranky and Bumpy is
really, really cranky. And, I might add, I have good reason! I have
nightmares almost every night about the spider bite turning into the
hideous wounds that I can’t make myself stop looking at on the Internet. Now, Pop and I being cranky is not really all that unusal. When Kris gets cranky, we are really in trouble! To
top everything off, my old computer is trying to bite the dust. So, I
got a new one before it hit the ground, so maybe I could get all my
“stuff” off before the death knell sounds. It’s
fast, it’s spiffy and does everything. Unfortunately, the operator
doesn’t exactly understand Windows 7. I am a MacIntosh person! But, I
have a PC at home. (My son, the cranky computer geek, won’t let me have
a Mac.) Sunday, I plugged everything up. Being in considerable pain and being very slow, I was still working on it Monday night. The
first thing I did was delete the nifty little “Dell Dock.” It took me
hours to get it back! I can’t get all my games back -- needless to say,
that’s not the computer’s fault. And, my email address book is still on the other computer. I can get to FaceBook, eBay and Amazon though! As my preacher says... “it’s all good!”
