Birthday celebration to honor late Mayor Eddie Lee Smith
The birthday of the late mayor of Holly Springs, Eddie Lee Smith Jr. will be celebrated at the Multi-Purpose Center named in his honor on July 22 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Smith, the first elected African American mayor of the city on July 1, 1989, served three terms.
The celebration is sponsored by the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum, the Eddie Lee Smith 4-H Club, the Lessye Lee Davis 4-H Club, and family and friends of the late mayor.
Members of the Smith family will present a special musical tribute to Mayor Smith. After the program, refreshments will be served.
Mayor Smith died January 25, 2001, as he neared the end of his third term in office.
