Byers tackling varsity football

Another Marshall County school will get a full taste of Friday night football this fall.
The H.W. Byers Lions will play their first varsity schedule as an independent. The start-up program played a junior high slate in 2008 and both junior high and junior varsity games last year.
Rodeo July 9-10
The 26th annual Knotty Bolden Memorial Deep South Championship Rodeo is set for this Friday and Saturday, July 9-10, at 8 p.m.

First let me say that I sincerely hope that your July 4th celebrations were safe, satisfying and relaxing. This is being penned prior to our annual (ninth) Water Gun War, but if previous years are any indications, I am sure that it will be a soaking good time.
Hurdle receives highest honor
Steve Hurdle, renowned bird dog trainer of national champion bird dogs, is a two-time Purina Award recipient. On June 5, Purina hosted its annual bird dog awards ceremony at the James Rainwater Convention Center in Valdosta, Ga. Hurdle was honored with Purina’s highest yearly bird dog achievement award, the 2009-2010 Top All-Age Handler of the Year.
Boater safety Saturday
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks will have a boater safety class on Saturday, July 10, from 8 a.m. until at the Marshall County Fairgrounds.
