Clydesdale
festival this week in Byhalia
The
annual Byhalia Clydesdale Christmas Store Festival is here. The big
event will be held at highways 309 and 78 this Thursday through
Saturday, June 17-19. Gates open at 5 p.m. and close at midnight.
Activities
include a carnival, entertainment and lots of good food.
Thursday
will be Biker Night and carnival wristband night, and Friday is Rajun
Cajun Night (boiled crawfish and cajun food). The J Bar B Rodeo will be
featured Friday and Saturday – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There
will be a magic show from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Cow-chip bingo is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. There will also be a $500
raffle ticket give-away drawing on Saturday night (must be present to
win).
The
entertainment schedule includes Eddie
Smith, Thursday from 7:30 p.m. until midnight; Rob and The Rage, Friday
from 9 p.m. until midnight; and The Dirt Brothers Band, country music
recording stars, Saturday night.
Hill Country
Picnic scheduled June 25-26
Now
in its fifth year, the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic will be
held June 25-26, off Highway 349 in Potts Camp.
This
year’s festival lineup features Hill Country musicians Kenny Brown,
Duwayne Burnside, The North Mississippi Allstars, Jimbo Mathus, Rising
Star Fife and Drum Band and many more. The two-day festival takes place
on an 1,100-acre site in the rolling hills of Marshall County and will
run from noon until after midnight both days.
The
festival is the brainchild of Potts Camp resident and acclaimed
bluesman Kenny Brown, who has witnessed first-hand the worldwide appeal
and influence of Hill Country Blues through his long tenure with R.L.
Burnside and travels with his own band.

Ida B. Wells
Banquet July 10 at Hudsonville
Tickets
are on sale for the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Commemorative Banquet.
It
will be held at the Hudsonville C.M.E. Church Family Life Center on
Saturday, July 10, at 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Tiana L. Ferrell,
great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells.
Tickets
are $25 each.
