two recent bank holdups and the robbery of Ed’s Pawn Shop in Watson

Marshall County Relay For Life was considered a success this year,
partly because weather permitted the act to go on and a good crowd
turned out to enjoy fun and fellowship. The event was canceled due to weather last year and cut short around midnight in 2008. Full Story
Springs slow street job By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The City of Holly Springs has run into snags in getting West College Street ready for milling and resurfacing. A
suitable way to let underground running water flow under the street has
to be made before a culvert can be replaced.

First-time homebuyer
June
is homeownership month nationwide. Celebrating locally is the City of
Holly Springs, USDA/Rural Development and first-time homebuyer Sharon

and Holly Springs mayor Andre' DeBerry. The United States Department of
Agriculture/Rural Development operates three homeowner programs. The
502 program is for low income families and to date 28 loans have been
approved this year beginning Oct. 1, 2009. The 504 program is for very
low income families and approves loans and grants to make home repairs.
Twenty-seven 504 loans or grants were approved this year. The
guaranteed rural housing program is for moderate income level families.
Funds can be used to build a new home or to buy an existing house. The
Oxford office has approved 120 guaranteed rural housing loans for the
year. USDA, Rural Development serves the counties of Marshall,
Lafayette and Yalobusha with its field office in Oxford. For more

Byhalia police respond to 38 calls The Byhalia
Police Department responded to 38 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 4;
disturbances, 1; domestic, 1; robbery, 1; assists, 2; medical
assistance, 14; fires, 5; and miscellaneous, 10. Byhalia police
officers also made six arrests during the past week.
County Communicare active By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
board of supervisors was informed about mental health and alcohol and
drug rehabilitation services provided by Communicare at a recent
