OpinionFielder’s Choice Harvey made a difference • I was stunned Friday when one of the newspaper’s employees got an obituary via the fax machine and said, ‘Harvey Haggard died.’ Close to Nowhere Voices from the past It’s been a nightmare trying to sell my mother-in-law’s house in Memphis, Tenn. Near the old Sears Crosstown building, the neighborhood has become run-down, with many of the area businesses closing. There are a lot of vacant buildings and homes throughout what used to be a thriving neighborhood. Wyatt’s World We will keep cranking the presses When people learn I am in the newspaper business, I invariably get asked about the Internet and its effect on printed publications. Letter To The Editor Heartfelt thanks: The bad part about living in a small town...everyone knows your business. The good part about living in a small town...everyone knows your business! Back in February, I was diagnosed with an emergency medical condition. Since then, I have undergone surgery that left a large pile of medical bills. I was honored with a couple of benefits that helped to raise money to go towards that pile. I would like to thank many people for their untiring work and contributions: Johnny and Nancy Boone (JB’s Family Restaurant); Bill and Kathy Boone, Clydesdale Christmas Store; all my Bunko Ladies; Zion Lutheran Church; Collins-Hurdle VFW Post 5697; Randy and Josh Sharpe (Baton Rouge, La.); South Reporter (for publishing times and dates of these events); everyone who sold/bought/ate during both benefits; my poker buddies; Lynn Pullen (my partner in crime); and last but not least my folks, Bill and Sherry Janssen, who were both there through the good, bad and ugly. Love you both. To all my friends and family...you have made this transplanted Yankee proud to call Marshall County and Holly Springs home. Sincerely, Hometown Heroes Supporting Our Troops If you’d like to add a name to this list, please contact The South Reporter, Attn. Linda Jones, P.O.
