Potts Camp ends successful season  | State participants
The
Potts Camp Lady Cardinals and Cardinals traveled to Pearl for the State
Track and Field Meet Friday, May 14. Six brought home medals, some more
than one. There were 22 schools there for 1A. The Lady Cardinals got
fourth and the Cardinals sixth. The girls and boys worked hard and had
a great season. They say “thank you” to everyone who gave donations to
the team. |
Potts Camp track and field teams finished second in the north half meet May 8 at Tupelo. Then
the Lady Cardinals and Cardinals followed that up with fourth- and
sixth-place finishes, respectively, at the state meet in Pearl. North Half The
Lady Cardinals totaled 91 points in the Class 1A North Half Track and
Field Meet, trailing first-place Myrtle with 115. They tied Houlka,
which had 91. The Cardinals scored 95 points at the meet. North State champ was Ray Brooks with 112. Coffeeville took third with 75 points. Several
Potts Camp athletes, who finished in the top four, earned the
opportunity to compete in the Class 1A State Track and Field Meet. North State’s top finishers follow. • Girls 3200 meter run – third, Shauna Haney, 14:25. • Boys 3200 meter run – second, George Hampton, 11:14. • Boys 1600 meter run – third, George Hampton, 5:10; fourth, Matt Swinford, 5:11. • Girls 4x100 meter relay – fourth, Rashane Brown, Terri Peace, Tierica Tunstall, Lamonica Ingram, 55.62. • Girls 400 meter dash – third, Tenesha Woods, 1:07.11; fourth, Lamonica Ingram, 1:09.70. • Boys 400 meter dash – fourth, Corey Totten, 57.62. • Girls 300 meter hurdles – third, Kenyotta Jenkins, 54.22. • Boys 300 meter hurdles – fourth, Devin Holmes, 46.05. • Boys 800 meter run – second, George Hampton, 2:15; fourth, Matt Swinford, 2:18. • Girls 200 meter dash – third, Tenesha Woods, 27.95. • Girls 4x400 meter relay – third, Lamonica Ingram, Maresha Payne, Terri Peace, Tierica Tunstall, 4:46. • Boys 4x400 meter relay – second, Matt Swinford, George Hampton, Corey Totten, Brantley Harris, 3:53. • Boys long jump – first, Corey Totten, 20-04. • Girls high jump – fourth, Kenyotta Jenkins, 4-10. • Girls triple jump – third, Tenesha Woods, 32-03. • Boys triple jump – fourth, Larry Miller, 37-10.5. • Girls pole vault – second, Megan Watkins, 7-06. State The
Potts Camp girls scored 46 points to earn fourth in the state meet.
First through third places, respectively, went to Myrtle (91), Houlka
(67) and Greenville St. Joe (53). Cathedral was fifth with 41 and
Coldwater sixth with 40. The Potts Camp boys
totaled 41 points for sixth in the state. First through fifth places,
respectively, went to Ray Brooks (82), Montgomery County (76), East
Oktibbeha (66), Coffeeville (58) and Durant (50).
