Health fair’s 10th anniversary
By SUE WATSON
The Eddie L. Smith Community Health Fair was celebrated with a ribbon cutting and the largest number of vendors since its inception.
George Gwin, executive director of Alliance Charitable Foundation of Marshall County, said it was the best attended health fair in its 10-year history with 37 vendors participating, plus 409 visitors and 51 health screenings turned in.
This year 197 children from the Marjean Myatt ICS Head Start Center in Holly Springs participated, enjoying hoola hoops, bicycle safety classes, a tour of Alliance’s ambulance, the city’s fire truck and the medical helicopter, Air Evac of Batesville. Alliance gave away four bicycles and a number of door prizes provided by vendors.
Inside the Eddie Lee Smith Multi-Purpose Building, professionals displayed their health- or safety-related products. Each year the groups showcasing their business products continue to diversify. Local participation has increased.
Local and out-of-town vendors included – Graceland Care Center; North Mississippi Rural Legal Services; Healthlink Acclaim NurseLink; Hawkins Family Medicine; Home Choice Health Services; Therapy Zone; Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Holly Springs; A&E Premium Hospice; Tyson Pharmacy; FAA Federal Credit Union; Social Security Administration (Olive Branch); J.F.
