Potts Camp teams eased to 53- and 27-point wins Monday, Jan. 4, at home. The Lady Cardinals routed Falkner 77-24 in the night’s opener. It was no contest from the start. Potts Camp was up 30-6 after one quarter. Five Lady Cards scored in double digits – Tenesha Woods with 16, Kenyotta Jenkins, Lamonica Ingram and Nieshia Stinson with 13 each and Zana Davis with 10. The girls and boys from neighboring Benton County saddled Marshall Academy teams with losses in the public school versus private matchups. Hawks soaring, improve to 16-1 By BARRY BURLESON It’s been five years since the Holly High Hawks won a state basketball championship. But this year’s team entered this week’s action at 16-1 and has its eyes on the top prize in Class 3A. The bulk of the roster is seniors and juniors. Rust teams busy on court By CLAUDE VINSON Rust College hosted four basketball games over the weekend, two on Saturday and another pair on Sunday. Saturday, the first game featured the Bearcats against Maryville College of Alcoa, Tenn. The second contest was a match-up between the Lady Bearcats and the Lady Tornadoes of Talladega College. Maryville plays in Division III and Talledega is a member of NAIA. Byhalia gets district wins By BARRY BURLESON Thomas Lesueur “was on fire” versus Lewisburg last week, according to his head coach. The senior scored 32 points, including six threes, as the Byhalia Indians stunned the Patriots 67-64 and improved to 2-2 in district play. |
