| Recruitment continues for leadership program By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Participants are needed for the next class of Leadership Marshall County. The
goal is to enroll between 25 and 30 class members for 2010, according
to Sarah Sawyer, executive director of the Byhalia Area Chamber of
Commerce. Enrollment for the class is needed
immediately to make sure there are enough signed up before the
supporting organizations make a commitment of resources, she said. The
chamber of commerce in Byhalia and Holly Springs and the Marshall
County Extension Service help organize the program and recruit a new
class each year. The local business community assists with sponsoring
costs of the class, which will be in its fifth year. “They have been wonderful to send participants and/or to sponsor meals,” Sawyer said. “The class size is important to make this work. Last year we had 22 enrolled, but we would like more.” Businesses
executives and government leaders are encouraged to enroll one or more
employees in the leadership course or to make a commitment to
continuing leadership education by participating themselves. Businesses
and government entities that have supported class membership by
sponsoring their employees and giving their employees time off to go to
the classes include banks, utility departments and associations, local
governments county offices, Rust College, industries, churches, medical
facilities, small businesses, civic clubs and school administrators. To date, over 120 individuals in Marshall County have enjoyed this all-important experience. Individuals
are encouraged to ask their supervisor or CEO for permission to attend
this year’s class, which begins in January with a two-day retreat. One
day a month is required with graduation in June. “All ages are welcomed,” Sawyer said. “We want diversity. We want senior citizens and young adults.” For
