Fund
established to help tornado victims
Merchants
& Farmers Bank has started a special fund to aid tornado
victims in the area.
Contributions
can be made at all bank branches or mailed to any Merchants &
Farmers location – P.O. Box 86, Ashland, MS 38603; P.O. Box 69, Hickory
Flat, MS 38633; P.O. Box 58, Byhalia, MS 38611; or P.O. Box 700, Holly
Springs, MS 38635.
The
Red Cross will coordinate
the selection of individuals in need of assistance, and tornado victims
will be given vouchers for personal needs.
Health fair
Thursday in Holly Springs
This
year marks the 10th anniversary of the Eddie L. Smith Community Health
Fair in Holly Springs. As in recent years, this year’s event will be
held in the Multi-Purpose Building on Memphis Street. It will run from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.
The
event
is designed to promote healthy living habits and provide preventive
care tips that can lead to a healthier and happier life, and is part of
the ongoing effort to inform, educate and empower our community to
adapt healthier lifestyle behaviors.
The
theme of
this anniversary year’s fair is “Making Health Fun” and there will be
many activities to inspire and entertain. Each year the health fair has
grown in attendance and in the variety of activities and information
available, and this year’s event is expected to draw several hundred
participants.
Business After
Hours scheduled May 20
The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce will host a “Business After Hours” on
Thursday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
It
will be held “On the Veranda” at the Court Square Inn Bed &
Breakfast, 132 East College Avenue.

Byhalia police
officers respond to theft, fires
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to 33 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5;
thefts, 1;
escorts, 1; juvenile-related calls, 1; assists, 3; medical assistance,
8; fires, 6; and miscellaneous, 8.
