County school
board schedules meeting
The
Marshall County Board of Education will meet for the May regular
meeting at Galena School, 4202 Highway 4 West.
The
meeting is set for Tuesday, May 11, at 5 p.m.
City of Holly
Springs receives water funds
U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development approved a Water and
Waste Disposal loan of $638,000 and a grant of $1,694,600 for the City
of Holly Springs, Congressman Travis Childers announced last week.
“The
USDA’s contribution represents a continued investment in the health and
quality of life of the residents of Holly Springs,” Congressman
Childers said.
“These
significant funds will
help ensure that North Mississippi’s water and waste systems are
up-to-date and able to successfully serve their users.”
Rural
Development funds will be used to construct 36.4 miles of distribution
lines for the Marianna Community.
There
is need for additional facilities because the past 70-80 years that the
water system has been in use, the City of Holly Springs has increased
in customer growth.
Fund
established to help tornado victims
Merchants
& Farmers Bank has started a special fund to aid tornado
victims in the area.
Contributions
can be made at all bank branches or mailed to any Merchants &
Farmers location – P.O. Box 86, Ashland, MS 38603; P.O. Box 69, Hickory
Flat, MS 38633; P.O. Box 58, Byhalia, MS 38611; or P.O. Box 700, Holly
Springs, MS 38635.
The
Red Cross will coordinate
the selection of individuals in need of assistance, and tornado victims
will be given vouchers for personal needs.
Byhalia police
officers respond to 26 calls
The
Byhalia Police Department responded to to 26 calls during the past week.
Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 6; motor
vehicle accidents, 3; disturbances, 2; domestic calls, 1; assists, 3;
medical assistance, 1; fires, 1; and miscellaneous calls, 9.
Byhalia
police officers also made six arrests during the past week.
