A Marshall Academy Patriot has advanced to the State AA Tennis Tournament in Jackson. Kendall Harris, a senior at MA, was scheduled to start state competition Wednesday of this week at Ridgeland Tennis Center.  | | MA’s Kendall Harris |
Harris finished District 1-AA play undefeated at 8-0 and won the district tournament in #1 boys singles. He then won his first match in north half, 6-3 and 6-1 over Manchester, but lost his second match, 1-6 and 4-6 to Lamar. Other Marshall tennis players also had strong seasons on the court. John
Tomlinson and Hank Owens finished district play 6-2. They finished
second to Kirk Academy in #1 boys doubles in the district tournament. Chase
Ferrell and Taylor Maurey finished district play 4-1. They finished
second to North Delta in #2 boys doubles in the district tournament. Emma
Elgin and Emily Burk upset the top seed Kirk #2 girls doubles team to
advance to the finals of the district tournament but fell to West
Memphis in the finals. All of them, too, advanced
to the North AA Tennis Tournament at Cleveland Country Club April 28,
but fell short of state. Burk and Elgin lost their north half match,
3-6, 4-6 to Leake. Tomlinson and Owens lost their match, 3-6, 6-0,
7-10 to Leake. Ferrell and Maurey lost their match 4-6, 6-2, 9-11 to
